Opening Conference 2004

Background:
During the inaugural year for the newly established IPRPI center, we host Interdisciplinary Inverse Problems: Opening Conference for IPRPI during April 5-7. The topics covered in this conference reflect the active research areas of center participants including: geophysical imaging, biomedical imaging, radar imaging, time reversal problems, earthquake dynamics inverse problems, ocean acoustics inverse problems, and photonics. We expect over 100 participants including 11 plenary and keynote speakers and several minisymposia.

Plenary Speakers and Panelists:
George Papanicoleao, Stanford University
Mathias Fink, ESPCI, Paris
Gunther Uhlmann, University of Washington

Albert Tarantola, Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris
Omar Ghattas, Carnegie Mellon University

Location:
The plenary lectures and the panel for the conference will be held in CII, Room 4050, in the core campus area of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Franklin Square Inn is within walking distance. Both the Hampton Inn and the Century House are a 10-15 minute drive from Rensselaer. We will provide transportation to and from those locations each morning and evening.

Registration:

We request that you register in advance so that we will have an idea of how many we need to accommodate. We will plan that each participant will attend the entire conference. If this is not the case, please indicate this on the form to aid us in meal planning.

Preregistration fee is $50.00 for regular participants with a $20.00 fee for graduate students. On-site registration fee is $70.00 for regular participants with a $35.00 fee for graduate students.

A/V Equipment:
The workshop will provide a computer projector and an overhead projector. If additional equipment is needed, please contact, mclauj3@rpi.edu.

Format:
Each of the three days there will be three plenary lectures in the morning and in the afternoon concurrent minisymposia containing six 30-minute talks each. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided each of the three days as well as dinner on Monday and Tuesday evenings. The goal is to have talks on current research from active programs and to provide ample time for discussion and interaction among participants.
